An interview with Maya Villiger of Turned Out

DOMAHOKA: Arnsdorf by Maya

I serendipitously came across Maya Villiger’s blog, Turned Out, in late 2008. In that instant, I knew it would easily become my favorite style blog of all time. Maya photographs girls who evoke quiet beauty, underlying strength, and an unobtrusive je ne sais quoi. It’s almost as if her images are subliminal.

Home sweet home

DOMAHOKA: Little house photo by Mark Ho-Kane

Home is where you hang your hat—your knit cap full of fuzzy, wooly goodness now that it’s finally cold out. Infinite thanks to Mark for his amazing design skillz (yes, with a ’z’) and for rebuilding a new, improved home for DOMAHOKA. Hope you stay awhile.

DOMAHOKA: Film stills from Rosemary’s Baby, 1968

Incredible leading ladies from my favorite scariest, spookiest films of all time. OK, so Alien is probably more sci-fi than horror, but equally as creepy and heebie jeebies-inducing, right? Happy Halloween!

We shall live again, shake out the ghost dance

DOMAHOKA: Film photos by Doris Ho-Kane

When I was younger, a week lasted forever. A month seemed to surpass an eternity. Oh, and you could forget about speaking of time in terms of years; I was an impatient little lady. These days, time vaporizes into thin air. The sun sets long before I’ve had enough time to enjoy the sunrise. Weeks fade into months, and now it’s already mid-October.

A Detacher Spring/Summer 2012 Runway Review

DOMAHOKA: Poster by A Detacher

When Mark and I opened up our invitation to the A Détacher Spring/Summer 2012 show, we were beguiled by the red embroidered flocking of the words GRANDMA’S HOUSE against the black and white images of abodes ranging from tipis to geodesic domes to castles.
